Updates on Shawn from Cindy and Bob,
We got the results back this morning. The tumor is two types, it is a primary tumor and also it is showing a Lymphoma. The doctor said that this is unusual something they don't see. We are waiting for the call from a new doctor at Allegheney General that we are being sent to. Dr Biguy said that they will have to do a biopsy of his neck before we know for sure what will happen next. There will be treatment we just don't know what kind yet. It looks like our journey is going to be long so please continue to keep us in your prayers.
Well folks...we got our work cut out for us. The mass in his brain had two distinctly different types of tumors. Both are malignant, and will have to be treated differently. We will being doing further testing in Pittsburgh this week to determine if he also has lymphoma in his upper body. Head lymphoma(already confirmed) is different than head lymphoma.
We could end up dealing with 3 different cancers at once. Two different at one time is rare. Three are literally unheard of.
Good news is that both already known cancers are treatable in each case. However, there may be conflicts in treating the both types at the same time.
We go Wed. for a spinal tap, and there will be 3 more series of tests before weeks end.
As of 12/23/07 - Tests are still ongoing and Shawn is able to resume normal activity with some planned treatment scheduled for the first weeks of January.
12/25/2007 - Well tomorrow morning I get to go put on a couple drives for him before we head into PGH in the PM to take out a neck lymph node for one last biopsy. Looks like we will start radiation next week. He still feels fine and showing no effects. Kinda thinking the treatments will change that next week.
01/14/2008 - Shawn started the chemo therapy this week and will continue with that every other week for the next several weeks.
Again...thanks for your PMs, postings, and prayers of support. And mostly for being our freinds.
